Locating…
Which train are you on?
Alternatively, the four digits printed inside the carriage, by the doors or in the cab window identify your train without need for GPS.
How this works
This app uses the Dutch Rail API.
First we wait for a GPS fix accurate to 100 m. Then we look at every train within 700 m of it and score them:
- Are they moving the same way you are?
- How far off are they?
- Did you pick one a moment ago?
The best five are the list you're shown.
Once you pick a train, we ask Dutch Rail for its next stop and which side the doors open there. We refresh that every 45 seconds, if you've got a long attention span.
Hope you found this useful. If you did, tell Dutch Rail — maybe they'll instruct their staff to simply announce it.
Safe travels,
Alain Wouterlood
NS API key
You don't need one. Sidestep asks NS through its own key, and nothing you do here is sent anywhere but NS.
If you'd rather use your own subscription from apiportal.ns.nl, paste it here and this device will ask NS directly instead. It is stored only on this device.
